Exceptional placemaking
rooted in Cambridge

For over 100 years the Marshall Group has played a key role in the Cambridge community and its economic success. The ambition for Cambridge East centres around providing a sustainable legacy for future generations of Cambridge.

The ambition is to create a genuinely transformative place that embraces a mixed community, exceptional place making, and significant employment provision.

The development will be born out of the core values that have served the Marshall business so well since its formation in 1909, underpinned by innovation, creativity, expertise and an unerring instinct to do the right thing for the city of Cambridge and the people who live and work in and around it.

Our principles

Cambridge East will be a 462-acre mixed use development, with sustainability and connectivity at its core; delivering a diverse range of architecture, homes, research and development, employment, education, healthcare, culture, sports and leisure opportunities and facilities to meet the needs of residents across Cambridge and beyond for generations to come – an extraordinary new urban quarter for an extraordinary city.

Ahead of developing a specific proposal or design, we have established some early principles to help guide the conversation.

Born out of Cambridge

We want great place making to be at the centre of Cambridge East, embracing the best of Cambridge and its communities, as well as thinking creatively about the opportunity to do something truly unique.

Led by landscape

Cambridge East provides a significant opportunity to open up the east of the city, create new accessible landscapes, and directly connect the city with the countryside.

A rich mix of uses

We have the opportunity to offer a wide variety of uses that benefit existing and future communities, bring people together and support everyday needs.

Delivering connections

Cambridge East has the potential to provide improved local and crosscity connectivity by public transport and make car-free environments the norm.

Homes for future living

At the heart of our ambition is supporting people to lead healthy, happy lives and creating opportunities for people across the city, continuing Marshall’s role in Cambridge and the community.

Strong and inclusive economy

Cambridge East can deliver diverse working environments, research and learning spaces, and co-located facilities, which all complement the city’s academic and science-based legacy.
